ALBANY, Ga. –
Brennan Reynard had 19 points to help lead the Benedict College Tigers to an 85-65 victory over the Albany State Golden Rams.
Benedict (12-8, 10-4 SIAC) also got a season-high 14 points from
Lafonzo Smith, as well as 14 points from
Andrew Crawford.
Deonte Johnson had 10 points and a game-high 14 rebounds.
Chris Wheeler led Albany State (8-13, 4-10 SIAC) with 13 points.
Albany State had a 20-19 lead midway through the first half when the Tigers went on a 21-6 run. The Tigers had a 43-30 lead at the break.
The Golden Rams cut the lead to 50-43 on a jumper by Wheeler, but the Tigers scored six straight points to push the lead to 13 points with 10:55 left, and Benedict held on to a double-digit lead the rest of the way. A 3-pointer by Wheeler cut the lead to 70-59, but the Tigers responded with a 9-0 run, getting a pair of layups by Reynard in that stretch.
The Tigers shot 53.7 percent, while holding the Golden Rams to 39.3 percent shooting. Benedict had a 46-25 rebounding advantage.
Benedict is back in action on Monday at Fort Valley State for a 7:30 p.m. contest.
