MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Arcadia University took the lead with two runs in the fifth inning with the help of a Benedict error, then added four runs in the eighth inning to secure a 12-7 victory over Benedict College in a non-conference baseball game played at the Ripken Experience.
The Tigers lost their fourth straight game and fell to 6-12 on the season. Arcadia, from Pennsylvania, improved to 6-1, with all the games played at Myrtle Beach over the last four days.
Benedict trailed 6-3 heading into the fifth inning.
Andrew McCoy led off the top of the fifth with a double and
Rodney Beach brought him home with a single. Back-to-back walks to
John Holleran and
Mitchell Dixon loaded the bases. After
David White Jr. flied out,
Shomarii Thomas singled to left field to bring home two runs and tie the score at 6-6. Dixon stole home on a double steal to give the Tigers their first lead of the game.
Arcadia pushed across two runs in the bottom of the fifth to retake the lead. The Tigers were three-up, three-down in the sixth and seventh, and had runners in scoring position in the eighth, but a double play ended the threat.
The Arcadia Knights had a single and double to score one run in the eighth, and an error allowed another run to score. Two more runs crossed the plate on a passed ball and wild pitch for the final 12-7 score.
Thomas was 3-for-3 with three RBIs for the Tigers. McCoy and White each had two hits.
Benedict is back in action Wednesday at Vorhees College. The two schools will have a rematch at Benedict with a doubleheader on Friday at noon.
