DENMARK, S.C. – The Benedict College baseball team snapped a seven-game losing streak with a doubleheader sweep over Vorhees College on Wednesday.
James Roman pitched six strong innings in the first game as the Tigers took a 2-0 victory.
Devon Lemon went the distance on the mound in the second game as the Tigers took a 6-2 victory.
Benedict improved to 8-12 on the season.
Roman and
Robert Troiano III, who pitched the seventh inning for the save, combined to limit Voorhees to just three hits.
Benedict scored one run in the first inning on a sacrifice fly by
Christopher Lail. The Tigers picked up another run in the sixth inning when
Marcelino Irizarry tripled to bring home
David White Jr.In the second game, the Tigers snapped a scoreless contest with a run in the third inning.
Rodney Beach drove home
Skyler Sabado with a sacrifice fly. The Tigers picked up four runs in the fourth inning.
Shomarii Thomas scored on an error and White stole home.
Andrew McCoy had a sacrifice fly to score
Mitchell Dixon, and
Daniel Young drew a bases-loaded walk.
The Tigers added a run in the fifth inning when
Gavin Murphy had an RBI single.
Lemon gave up just two hits, struck out four and did not walk a batter to earn his first win on the mound this season.
Benedict will host Voorhees on Friday for a doubleheader starting at noon.
