Columbia College Takes Pair From Benedict

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College softball team saw their losing streak stretch to nine games as cross-town rival Columbia College swept a doubleheader on Wednesday at King Park.

Columbia College rallied from a 2-0 deficit and scored five runs in the sixth inning and five more in the seventh inning to take an 11-2 victory.  In the second game, Columbia College scored five runs in the final two innings to take a 6-2 victory.

Benedict falls to 5-17 on the season. Columbia College improves to 7-7.

Benedict took a 2-0 lead in the first game when Jasmin Sledge hit a two-run homer in the first inning. The Koalas cut the lead to 2-1 in the fourth inning. Columbia College used four hits, including a lead-off double, a sacrifice fly and a Benedict error to push across five runs in the sixth inning. Columbia got an RBI double and an RBI single in the seventh, then scored three runs on a hit and Benedict fielding error in the outfield.

Columbia scored on a sacrifice fly in the first inning of the second game. The game stayed 1-0 until the Koalas scored three runs in the sixth inning. Benedict got on the board in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI single by Sledge. Two Benedict errors in the seventh allowed two more Columbia College runs to score.

Benedict is back in action on Friday with a single conference game against Clark Atlanta at 5 p.m. at King Park. The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 2 p.m.
