Lady Tigers Take Two Of Three From Clark Atlanta

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Kelsey Green, celebrating her birthday, drove in the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Benedict College softball team a 12-11 victory in the third game of a triple-header on Saturday at King Park.

Benedict won the second game 9-8 as Torcealon Kelly hit a walk-off single down the left field line in the bottom of the seventh. Clark Atlanta won the first game of the day 4-1. The two teams were scheduled to play a doubleheader on Saturday and the third game on Sunday. With rain in the forecast for Sunday, they played all three games on Saturday.

Benedict improved to 7-18 overall and 2-8 in the SIAC. Clark Atlanta moves to 5-21 overall and 3-8 in the SIAC.

After the two teams split the first two games, Clark Atlanta scored eight runs in the fourth inning of the third game to take a 10-4 lead. The Lady Tigers pushed across three runs in the bottom of the fourth to cut the lead to 10-7. Kelly brought home BerGearia Major, who led off the inning with a walk. After Green bunted over the two base runners, Cecelia Lykes hit a double to left field to score two runs.

Asia Benn hit a two-run single in the bottom of the fifth to make it 10-9. Clark Atlanta added a run in the sixth on a solo home run.

Green doubled to lead off the sixth inning, moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Lykes and came home on a single by Jasmin Sledge to cut the lead to 11-10. Kendall James struck out the side in the top of the seventh. In the bottom of the seventh, Major led off with a single to right field, stole second and moved to third on a ground out. She scored the tying run when Clark Atlanta dropped Kelly's fly ball to right field. Kelly stole second and scored the winning run on Green's sharp single to left field.

Lykes drove in three runs in the third game, while Major was 3-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI.

The Lady Tigers had an 8-3 lead after the sixth inning of the second game before Clark Atlanta rallied to tie the score with five runs in the top of the seventh. Benn led off the bottom of the seventh with a double and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Kelly's single down the left field line scored the game-winning run. Major was 3-for-4 with four RBIs in the second game. She had a solo home run in the second inning.

Clark Atlanta held Benedict to three hits in the first game and Benedict committed six errors in that contest.

Benedict returns to action on Wednesday against Edward Waters College in a non-conference doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. at King Park.
