ORANGEBURG, S.C. – David White hit a pair of home runs and drove in four runs to lead the Benedict College baseball team to a 12-4 victory over Claflin University on Sunday.
The Tigers (13-14 overall, 6-4 SIAC) led from start to finish.
Andre Collum had an RBI single in the first inning to put Benedict on the scoreboard, and White hit his first home run, a solo shot in the second inning, to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead.
Claflin (14-20, 10-2 SIAC) cut the lead to 2-1 in the bottom of the second, but the Tigers got another run in the third on a sacrifice fly by White. Claflin scored a run in the bottom of the third to make it 3-2.
Benedict had a five-run fourth inning to take command of the game. Collum had a two-run double, then later came home on a single by
Mitchell Dixon. With Dixon on second, White hit his second homer to make it 8-2.
The Tigers added a single run in the sixth on an RBI single by
Andrew McCoy. In the seventh inning, Benedict pushed across three more runs.
Daniel Young hit a sacrifice fly to right field that scored
Rodney Beach from third and
Kevin Davis from second.
Shomarii Thomas scored from second on a single by Dixon for the final Benedict run.
Yaniel Delgado went seven innings on the mound for the win. He scattered seven hits and struck out eight. Thomas closed out the game without allowing a hit and striking out three over the final two innings.
