TUSCALOOSA, Ala. –
Rydealous Taylor scored a season-high 20 points to help lead the Benedict College Tigers to a 75-64 victory over Stillman College on Thursday night in an SIAC contest.
The Tigers snapped a four-game losing streak and improved to 9-6 overall and 4-2 in the SIAC. Stillman lost its first conference contest and dropped to 8-5 overall and 3-1 in the SIAC.
Benedict had three other players reach double figures as
Brennan Reynard had 12 points, while
Christopher Spencer and
Quiron Cooke added 10 points each. The Tigers won despite being shorthanded due to injuries. Leading scorer
Jordan Smith and leading rebounder
Lafonzo Smith both missed their second straight game.
Benedict scored 12 straight points in the first half to take a 16-8 lead after a jumper by Cooke with 10:56 on the clock. The Tigers built the lead to as much as 12 points, but Stillman cut the lead to 35-30 at the half.
Stillman cut the lead in the second half to 53-51 with 9:57 left to play, but Benedict got a 3-pointer from
Deshawn Graham and three free throws to build a 59-51 lead. After Stillman cut the lead to 63-58 with five minutes remaining, the Tigers responded with eight straight points to take command with a 13-point lead with 1:15 left to play.
Benedict is back in action on Saturday at LeMoyne-Owen for a 7:30 p.m. contest.
