COLUMBIA, S.C. – Point University took advantage of six Benedict errors to take a 14-11 victory in game one, then used a five-run fourth inning to take a 10-3 victory in the second game in a non-conference baseball doubleheader on Sunday at Tiger Field.
Point had an 8-3 lead after three innings of the first game, thanks to three unearned runs and a three-run homer.
Jorge Moreno had a three-run homer for the Tigers in the second inning. The Tigers cut the lead to 8-5 on a two-run homer by
Joel Manzano in the fourth inning.
Point increased the lead to 11-5 in the fifth inning on a three-run homer. The Tigers cut the lead to 11-9 with four runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Armando Valentin had a two-run single, and Moreno followed with a two-run single. The Skyhawks got another three-run homer in the sixth inning to push the lead to 14-9.
Reinaldo Santiago crushed a two-run homer to deep left field in the sixth to make it 14-11.
Point led 4-2 after three innings in the second game. The Skyhawks then scored five runs in the fourth inning for a 9-2 lead.
David White Jr. had a solo home run in the fourth inning for the Tigers.
Benedict falls to 9-4 on the season. The Tigers have 10 days off before their next game when they take on Virginia State University at home on March 10.
