ATLANTA – David White hit a pair of home runs, including a grand slam in the eighth inning, to help lift the Benedict Tigers to a 13-6 baseball victory over Virginia State on Thursday at Tiger Field.
White hit a two-run blast in the first inning to tie the game at 2-2. His grand slam came in the eighth inning and gave the Tigers an 11-6 lead.
Benedict improves to 10-4 on the season. Virginia State falls to 1-14.
Virginia State jumped out to a 5-2 lead, but the Tigers came back to tie the game on a two-run homer by
Armando Valentin in the fourth inning. An RBI single by
Joe Lucas in the fifth inning put the Tigers ahead 6-5.
Daniel Young had an RBI single in the seventh inning to make it 7-5. After White's grand slam in the eighth,
Myles Snype and
Andrew McCoy had back-to-back RBI triples.
James Roman pitched five innings to pick up the win on the mound.
Benedict is back in action on Friday to take on Clark Atlanta in a conference three-game series. They will play a single game on Friday at 2 p.m., and a doubleheader on Saturday starting at noon.
