Benedict Baseball Takes Pair From St. Augustine's

RALEIGH, N.C. – For the second time in three days, the Benedict College baseball team swept a doubleheader from St. Augustine's College.

After winning Saturday's home opener twinbill, the Tigers beat the Falcons in Raleigh on Monday, winning 3-2 in the first game and then 6-2 in the second game.

Benedict improves to 4-1 on the season, with all four wins against St. Augustine's. The Falcons fall to 0-4.

The Tigers scored all three runs in the fifth inning of the first game. The Falcons took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI single.

In the fifth inning, Shomarii Thomas walked, stole second and came home on a single by Reinaldo Santiago. Skyler Sabado hit a sacrifice bunt to score the go-ahead run. Joel Manzano hit a single to left field to score Armando Valentin and give the Tigers a 3-1 lead.

The Falcons cut the score to 3-2 in the bottom of the sixth on a wild pitch.

Angel Perez picked up the win on the mound to improve to 2-0. Thomas came in relief to pitch the seventh inning and earned his first save.

In the second game, Benedict pounded out 10 hits and held St. Augustine's to three hits in the 6-2 victory.

David White Jr. hit a two-run homer in the fifth inning. Valentin had an RBI double in the second inning and Manzano had an RBI triple in the fourth inning.

Ricardo Pagan picked up the win on the mound, going four innings.

The Tigers return home to play a three-game series against Florida Memorial University. They will play a doubleheader starting at noon on Thursday and a single game on Friday at 1 p.m.
