COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College baseball team used a six-run third inning, and then held Clark Atlanta scoreless for the final six innings to take a 10-6 victory over the Panthers in their first conference game of the season on Friday afternoon at Tiger Field.
Benedict improved to 11-4 overall and 1-0 in the SIAC. Clark Atlanta fell to 4-17 overall and 0-1 in the SIAC.
The Tigers were trailing 6-2 after the first two innings of play. Benedict's bats came alive in the third inning.
Reinaldo Santiago hit a two-run double to make it 6-4.
Jorge Moreno doubled to score Santiago.
Andrew McCoy's second triple of the game scored Moreno to tie the game. McCoy came home for the go-ahead run when
Skyler Sabado reached on an error. Sabado later scored on
John Holleran's single to make it 8-6.
The Tigers added a couple of insurance runs, getting a sacrifice fly from
Marcelino Irizarry in the fourth inning and an RBI double by Holleran in the eighth inning.
Louis Garcia pitched four innings of one-hit ball to pick up the win on the mound.
Benedict and Clark Atlanta will conclude their conference series with a doubleheader on Saturday, starting at noon at Tiger Field.
