COLUMBIA, S.C. –
John Holleran drove in five runs and
Robert Troiano III had a two-run homer as the Benedict College baseball team pounded Clark Atlanta University 16-5 on Saturday at Tiger Field to take the weekend series from the Panthers.
Benedict improves to 12-5 overall and 2-1 in the SIAC. Clark Atlanta falls to 5-18 overall and 1-2 in the SIAC.
Clark Atlanta won the first game of Saturday's doubleheader 9-8 as Benedict committed five errors in the contest. Troiano drove in three runs in that game and
David White Jr. had a two-run homer.
In the second game, Holleran had a two-run double in the third inning to give the Tigers a 3-2 lead.
Reinaldo Santiago brought home Holleran with a single. The Tigers pushed five runs across the plate in the fourth inning. Holleran had a two-run triple. Santiago had a two-out triple to score another run and
Daniel Young followed with a double to score Santiago.
Benedict made it 12-3 with three runs in the fifth inning. Troiano,
Armando Valentin and Holleran all drove in runs. After Clark Atlanta scored three runs in the top of the sixth, Benedict responded with four runs in the bottom of the inning. Troiano was responsible for two runs with his homer.
Devon Lemon picked up the win on the mound to improve to 2-0.
In the first game, Benedict had an 8-5 lead before the Panthers scored four runs in the top of the sixth inning to pull ahead.
Benedict will travel to the Ripken Experience baseball park in Myrtle Beach on Wednesday to face Albertus Magnus, an NCAA Division III school from New Haven, Conn.
