Washington College Rallies Past Benedict, 3-2

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Washington College scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to rally past Benedict College 3-2 in a non-conference baseball game on Wednesday at the Cal Ripken Experience baseball complex.

Benedict took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, and that was all the scoring until Washington scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to cut the lead to 2-1.

After Yancy Freeny led off the game with a walk, John Holleran tripled to score the first run. Holleran scored on a groundout by David White Jr.

The Shoremen got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the seventh. Luke D'Ostilio was hit by a pitch with two outs, then Bryan Baquer tripled to bring him home.

In the eighth, Aaron Barclay doubled home TC Conrad with one out to tie the game at 2-2 and D'Ostilio hit a two-out single to center to score Barclay for the go ahead run.

The Tigers had a runner at third with two outs in the top of the ninth, but WC pitcher John Beck got Jorge Moreno to strikeout swinging to end the game.

Benedict falls to 12-6. Washington College, a NCAA Division III school from Maryland, improves to 9-1-1.

Benedict travels to Vorhees for a non-conference game on Thursday. The Tigers travel to Augusta on Saturday and Sunday for a three-game conference series against Paine.
