COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College baseball team set a record for runs scored under head coach Selwyn Young in a 32-1 victory over Morris College on Monday afternoon at Tiger Field to sweep a doubleheader.

Benedict won the first game 21-2 to improve to 17-8 overall. Morris fell to 0-4.

The 32 runs scored was the most ever under Young, now in his seventh year as coach. Previously, the record was 31 runs against Clark Atlanta in 2011. The recent school record is 34 runs in a 34-0 victory over St. Paul's on March 19, 2005. Records prior to 2004 were unavailable.

John Holleran was 7-for-7 with seven RBIs. He had an RBI single in the second inning, an RBI triple in the third, an RBI single in the fourth, an RBI double in the fifth and a three-run triple in the sixth. Skyler Sabado was 4-for-7 with 4 RBIs, including an inside-the-park home run in the second. He added an RBI double in the third and a two-run single in the fifth. Daniel Young drove in four runs on the day, including a two-run homer in the third inning.

The Tigers had a 14-0 lead after four innings, but exploded with 11 runs in the fifth inning and added seven more in the sixth.

Myles Snype picked up the win on the mound, allowing just three hits over four innings and striking out six.

In the first game, the Tigers scored in every inning for the 21-2 win. Armando Valentin was 4-for-5 with five RBIs, hitting a grand slam in the fourth inning. He also stole four bases as the Tigers recorded 11 stolen bases. The Tigers stole nine bases in the second game.

The Tigers took advantage of 15 walks and five wild pitches and five hit batsmen by four Morris pitchers. Morris also committed six errors in that contest.

The Tigers return to action this weekend when they travel to Albany State for a three-game conference series. The Tigers and Golden Rams play a doubleheader starting at noon on Friday, with a single game on Saturday
