COLUMBIA, S.C. –
Kelsey James went 3-for-4 with three RBIs to help lead Benedict to a 5-3 victory over Claflin in the second game of a doubleheader on Saturday at Martin Luther King Park.
James had an RBI single in the first inning, scoring
Erika Dargan. James singled home Dargan again in the second inning to make it 3-0. Claflin cut the lead to 3-2 with a pair of runs in the third inning. Claflin tied the game at 3-3 with an RBI single in the fourth inning.
The Lady Tigers regained the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Asia Moore had an RBI single, then James had a single to center field to score Dargan again.
In the first game, Benedict jumped out to a 6-0 lead. James had an RBI single in the third and added a two-run double in the fourth inning.
Sharik Woods and
Starkeira Daniels also had RBI singles. Moore had an RBI double in the fourth inning.
Claflin scored five runs in the sixth inning to cut the lead to 6-5, getting a pair of runs on a home run. Benedict added a run on an RBI double by James in the sixth inning. Claflin took the lead with six runs in the top of the seventh inning.
In the first game of the series on Friday, Claflin pitcher Tiaria Norman struck out 15 and held Benedict to just two hits in a 3-1 victory.
Benedict is now 15-20 overall and 9-9 in the SIAC.
