COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College softball team wrapped up the 2016 regular season by sweeping Paine College in a rare triple-header at King Park on Tuesday.
Benedict won the first game 8-1, took the second game 7-0 and then wrapped up the day with an 11-3 victory.
The Lady Tigers improved to 18-20 overall and 12-9 in the SIAC and secured third place in the SIAC East Division heading to next week's SIAC Championship Tournament.
Tandreanna Conyers had two hits, including a two-run double, in the first game.
Kelsey James also had a pair of hits, while
Erika Dargan and
Asia Moore drove in runs.
Kendall James allowed four hits over seven innings for the win.
Starkeira Daniel went 3-for-3 with an RBI in the second game. Moore drove in two runs on a single.
Regime McCombs had a hit and her first RBI. Dargan,
Kelsey James and
Amari Lawson all drove in a run. Moore and
Shanessa Rees shared pitching duties and held Paine to just three hits. Rees picked up the win.
Kelsey James went 2-for-2 with three RBIs in the second game.
Jordyn Saxton went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs.
Tiana Prince also drove home a pair of runs. Daniel also brought home two runs. Rees picked up another win on the mound.
The 2016 SIAC Championship Tournament begins April 28 at the Lovejoy Softball Complex in Hampton, Ga.
