COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College Tigers swept a non-conference baseball doubleheader over Voorhees College on Wednesday afternoon at Tiger Field.
The Tigers won the first game 13-1 as
David White Jr. hit his 13
th home run of the season, a three-run blast in the first inning.
Skyler Sabado had a two-run triple.
Yancy Freeny added a two-run single.
Ryan Ramirez pitched an inning in relief for the win.
The Tigers had a seven-run sixth inning to pull away for a 13-2 victory in the second game.
John Holleran had a two-run homer over the left field fence in the second inning to give Benedict a 4-2 lead.
Jorge Moreno had an RBI single in the third inning and
Shomarii Thomas had an RBI single in the fourth inning to push the lead to 6-2.
Benedict sent 11 batters to the plate in the bottom of the sixth inning, collecting five hits and taking advantage of three Voorhees errors. Thomas had an RBI single, White had a two-run single,
Reinaldo Santiago had an RBI single,
Marcelino Irizarry added an RBI double and
Jorge Moreno brought home the final run with a single up the middle.
Skyler Sabado, making his second pitching appearance of the season, picked up the win by pitching 2 2/3 innings and giving up two hits.
Murrell Martin struck out three batters in the fifth and
Andrew McCoy made his debut pitching appearance and pitched a hitless sixth inning.
The Tigers wrap up the regular season this weekend with a conference series against Miles College, the top team in the West Division. Saturday's doubleheader starts at noon.
