COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College baseball team rallied with three runs in the top of the seventh inning to beat Morehouse 5-4 in the first game of a SIAC doubleheader on Saturday.
Morehouse won the second game 5-3. Benedict moves to 22-10 on the season and 6-5 in the SIAC. Morehouse goes to 15-21 overall and 3-11 in the SIAC.
Morehouse jumped out to a 4-0 lead after scoring two runs in the first and two runs in the third.
Benedict put a run on the board in the fifth inning.
Andrew McCoy led off the inning with a single and advanced to second on a groundout.
Armando Valentin singled to score McCoy.
The Tigers made it 4-2 in the sixth inning when
David White Jr. led off with a solo homer.
Benedict pulled ahead in the seventh as McCoy led off with a single.
Skyler Sabado followed with another single. Valentin then smashed a three-run homer to give Benedict a 5-4 lead.
Yaniel Delgado came in to pitch the seventh inning and struck out two of the three batters he faced to earn the save.
Morehouse took a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the second inning of the second game. Benedict cut the lead to 2-1 on an RBI double by White. Morehouse made it 3-1 with a run in the fifth inning.
Reinaldo Santiago hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 3-2 in the sixth inning. Morehouse added two runs in the sixth inning for a 5-2 lead.
Marcelino Irizarry hit a solo homer in the seventh inning for the final run.
Benedict and Morehouse will play the third game of the conference series on Sunday at 1 p.m.
