MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The 14
th-ranked Benedict College Tigers put five players in double figures to beat LeMoyne-Owen College 87-67 in their SIAC opener on Saturday night.
Cairo Brown led the Tigers with 18 points.
Brandon Morris added 14 points and
Dimitri Cook chipped in 13 points.
Jelani Watson-Gayle and
Rodney Prichard both added 12 points.
Benedict improves to 7-0 overall and 1-0 in the SIAC. LeMoyne-Owen falls to 2-3 overall and 0-1 in the SIAC.
Benedict had a 29-28 lead with 6:23 left in the first half before the Tigers went on a 14-5 run to close out the first half and take a 43-32 lead at the halftime break.
The Magicians cut the lead to 48-45 with 16:40 left in the contest, but the Tigers scored the next nine points for a 12-point advantage. A 12-point run a short while later gave the Tigers a 71-50 lead with 8:04 on the clock.
Rashawn Ellis led the Magicians with 32 points.
Benedict is at Lane College on Monday at 7:30 p.m.
