COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College Tigers used a big 23-7 second-half run to pull away from the Spring Hill Badgers and take an 83-74 victory in a SIAC men's basketball game on Monday night.
Playing their only home game in the month of December, the Tigers got 18 points from
Brandon Morris and
Jelani Watson-Gayle, while
Mike Udume came off the bench to score 15 points, hitting four second-half 3-pointers that helped the Tigers pull away for the win.
Benedict improves to 10-3 overall and 3-2 in the SIAC. Spring Hill falls to 2-9 overall and 0-3 in the SIAC. Brandon Fischer led the Badgers with 21 points.
Spring Hill had a 44-40 lead at the half and built their biggest lead, 63-55, on a 3-pointer by Jack Morrissey with 11:06 on the clock. The Tigers answered with a 3-pointer by Udume and capped off an 11-0 run with a pair of free throws by Morris for a 66-63 lead with 7:28 remaining. Another 3-pointer by Udume gave Benedict a 78-70 lead with 4:04 left.
The Tigers take a Christmas break, and return to action on Dec. 30 at Kentucky State for a 7:30 p.m. contest. The next home game will be Jan. 4 against Tuskegee.
