AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Benedict College softball team swept a three-game series against Paine College on Friday and Saturday, beating the Lady Lions by a combined score of 66-2 in the three games.
Benedict won the first game 24-0 in five innings on Friday, as Kendall James threw a no-hitter. The Lady Tigers won the first game on Saturday 24-2 in five innings, as Benedict had 16 hits and stole 12 bases while Paine committed 10 errors. Benedict won the final game 18-0 in five innings as Shanessa Rees threw a no-hitter.
Benedict improves to 16-16 overall and 7-5 in the SIAC. Paine falls to 0-11 overall and 0-11 in the SIAC.
Philmetriss Cornelius went 4-for-4 with five RBIs on Friday. Erika Dargan was 3-for-3, including a home run, and drove in three runs. Sharik Woods went 4-for-4, recording three doubles, and drove in four runs.
Woods went 4-for-5 with three RBIs in Saturday's first game. Taylor Roberts went 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Brianna Billie drove home three runs on a pair of hits.
In the second game, Billie was the offensive catalyst, going 3-for-5 with four RBIs. Cornelius and Starkeira Daniel each went 3-for-4 with two RBIs.
Rees walked just one batter and struck out five to improve to 5-1. James struck out five and walked three in her no-hitter.
Benedict, which has won six games in a row, is back in action on Tuesday, hosting Livingstone in a non-conference doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
