COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College baseball team swept a doubleheader from Morehouse College on Saturday as Skyler Sabado drove in six runs on the day.

The Tigers won both games by identical 16-9 scores, getting seven runs in the sixth inning of the first game, then pounding out 17 hits in the second game.

Benedict improves to 16-8 overall and 3-2 in the SIAC. Morehouse drops to 5-21 overall and 2-5 in the SIAC.

The Tigers pushed across six runs in the fourth inning of the first game for a 9-1 lead. Morehouse got six runs in the fifth and two runs in the top of the sixth to tie the score at 9-9. Benedict broke the tie in the bottom of the sixth as Reinaldo Santiago singled in a pair of runs. Sabado tripled to left field to score two more runs. Yancy Freeny had an RBI single and Andrew McCoy had an RBI triple.

James Roman picked up the win in relief.

In the second game, Morehouse had a 5-2 lead heading into the bottom of the second inning when the Tigers regained the lead with four runs. Sabado had an RBI single and McCoy had an RBI double. Armando Valentin also had an RBI single.

Darian Williams had a two-run double in the fourth inning to give Benedict an 11-4 lead. Benedict added five more runs in the fifth inning for a 16-5 lead. McCoy had an RBI single and Valentin drove in two runs with a double. Robert Troiano III and David White Jr. also had RBI singles.

Jacob Lagos picked up the win in relief for the Tigers.

Benedict and Morehouse play the third game in the conference series on Sunday at 1 p.m.
