TUSKEGEE, Ala. – The Benedict College Tigers pounded out 33 hits to sweep a pair of baseball games over Tuskegee in an SIAC doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.
Benedict won the first game 16-1 as
Andrew McCoy went 4-for-4 with four RBIs, and
James Roman pitched a complete game to improve to 7-0.
Myles Snype went 3-for-3 with three RBIs in the second game and
Cheyenne Lopez pitched a complete game, striking out 11 in seven innings.
The Tigers improve to 24-14 overall and 13-7 in the SIAC. Tuskegee falls to 22-25 overall and 8-11 in the SIAC.
In the first game, the Tigers scored six runs in the fourth inning as
Michael Garner hit a bases-loaded triple to bring in three runs. McCoy followed with an RBI single and
Armando Valentin added a single to score McCoy.
Benedict added a run in the fifth on an RBI double by
Darian Williams and a run in the sixth on a triple by Valentin. The Tigers exploded for eight runs in the seventh inning on nine hits. Garner had an RBI double, McCoy followed with a two-run double,
Reinaldo Santiago had an RBI double, and Valentin, Snype and
Joel Manzano all had RBI singles. McCoy, batting for the second time in the inning, walked with the bases loaded to bring home Benedict's final run.
In the second game, the Tigers jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Valentin,
David White Jr., Snype and Williams all had RBI singles. McCoy and Valentin drove home runs in the fourth inning to give Benedict a 7-0 lead. Garner added an RBI single in the fifth. Santiago brought home one run in the sixth and Snype drove home two runs in the sixth.
Lopez pitched his first complete game of the season, giving up five hits and walking one to go along with his 11 strikeouts.
Benedict and Tuskegee will finish their conference series with a single game on Sunday.
