CARROLLTON, Ga. – The Benedict College Tigers fell to 0-3 with an 83-69 loss to West Georgia on Saturday night.
Benedict started out hot, jumping out to a 17-2 lead in the first four and a half minutes of the game. The Wolves started to chip away at the lead, eventually taking a 25-23 lead, their first of the game, with 7:39 left in the half. West Georgia had a 42-33 lead at the half.
Benedict cut the lead to 45-35 early in the second half, but that was as close as the Tigers would get. The Wolves built as much as a 20-point lead on two occasions in the second half.
Jalen Stegall led the Tigers with 19 points.
Tyrease Mapp added 17 points while grabbing 10 rebounds for a double-double. Marquill Smith led the Wolves with 29 points and 16 rebounds.
The Tigers return to action on Wednesday, traveling to Augusta to take on Augusta University at 7:30 p.m.
