COLUMBIA, S.C. – Lane College outscored the Benedict College Tigers 22-14 in overtime to take a 95-87 victory on Monday night in a SIAC basketball game in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
Benedict falls to 0-6 on the season, 0-2 in the SIAC. Lane improves to 3-2 overall and 2-0 in the SIAC.
Terrance Holt hit four 3-pointers and scored 13 points in overtime to lead the Dragons. Holt finished the game with a game-high 26 points and connected on seven 3-pointers. Kendarius Ash, the SIAC preseason Defensive Player of the Year, scored 21 points and grabbed a game-high 18 rebounds and added two blocked shots.
Kelvin Omojola led the Tigers with a season-high 24 points.
Tyrease Mapp added 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for a double-double.
DeShawn Graham came off the bench to chip in 15 points and
Romello Jones added 13 points.
Jasiah Perry had a season-high 14 rebounds.
Benedict had a 65-57 lead with 5:29 left in the second half after a free throw by Jones. Lane outscored the Tigers 11-1 to take a 68-66 lead with 3:15 left to play. A pair of free throws by Graham gave Benedict a 73-70 lead with 22 seconds left, but Holt hit a 3-pointer with 14 seconds left to tie the game.
In overtime, Holt made his four 3-pointers to give the Dragons an 88-79 lead with 1:45 remaining. Two free throws by Ash gave the Dragons their largest lead, 91-80, with 1:09 left to play.
The Tigers return to action on Thursday, traveling to take on Livingstone College in Salisbury, N.C. for a non-conference matchup. They return home for a Dec. 3 non-conference contest against Newberry at 6 p.m.
