AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Benedict College baseball team opened the 2018 season with a 9-1 loss to Augusta University on Wednesday at Lake Olmstead Stadium.
The Tigers were held to five hits on the day.
Andrew McCoy had two of Benedict's hits, including a triple in the sixth inning for Benedict's only extra-base hit.
Michael Garner followed with a groundout to score McCoy for the Tigers' only run.
The Jaguars scored five runs in the first inning, all with two outs.
Keati Buchanan, Benedict's first of eight pitchers on the afternoon, took the loss on the mound.
Benedict returns to action with a pair of doubleheaders against St. Augustine's College. The first doubleheader is Sunday in Raleigh, N.C., then another doubleheader on Monday in Columbia for their home opener at 1 p.m.
