COLUMBIA, S.C. –
Khayreyah Parrish hit a three-run homer and
Brianna Billie drove in three runs as the Benedict College softball team defeated Columbia College 14-6 in the second game of a doubleheader to split the series with the Koalas.
Columbia College took the first game 13-7, handing the Lady Tigers their first loss of the season. Benedict is now 5-1 on the season. Columbia College moves to 1-3.
After dropping the first game, the Lady Tigers came out swinging in the second game, scoring nine runs in the first inning.
Taylor Roberts drove home the first run of the game on a single.
De'Maya Davis added an RBI single,
Amari Lawson walked with the bases loaded, and Parrish blasted a three-run shot to left-center for a 9-0 lead.
Benedict added three more runs in the second inning to make the score 12-1. Billie hit a hard shot up the middle to score two runs.
Erika Dargan added an RBI single. The Koalas added a run in the third, and four in the fourth to cut the lead to 12-6. The Lady Tigers got a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth when Parrish hit an RBI double, and Dargan hit a sacrifice fly to make it 14-6, giving the Lady Tigers an eight-run cushion to end the game in the fifth inning.
Roberts picked up the win to improve to 4-0.
In the first game, Columbia College hit three home runs to take a 13-7 victory. Billie had a triple for Benedict's only extra-base hit.
The Lady Tigers travel to take on Spartanburg Methodist in Spartanburg on Feb. 23. The next home game will be Feb. 27 against Winston-Salem State.
