BEAUFORT, S.C. – The Benedict College baseball team gave up 13 hits and committed three errors as USC Beaufort took a 14-4 victory over the Tigers in a non-conference baseball game on Wednesday afternoon.
Benedict falls to 2-4 on the season. USC Beaufort improves to 3-6.
After the Sand Sharks scored a run in the second inning, the Tigers tied the game in the top of the third when
Andrew McCoy reached on a throwing error, allowing
Joseph Macaluso to score.
USC Beaufort added three runs in the bottom of the third to take the lead for good. Benedict cut the lead to 4-2 with a run in the fourth inning when
Javier Santiago singled and came home on a double by
Fate Young.
The Sand Sharks added two runs in the fourth, two runs in the fifth, a single run in the sixth and two runs in the seventh for an 11-2 lead. Benedict got a two-run homer by
David White Jr. in the eighth inning, but the Sand Sharks answered with three runs in the bottom of the eighth.
Young and
Armando Valentin had two hits each to account for four of Benedict's six hits. The Tigers sent six pitchers to the mound, walking 10 and striking out six. Starter
Osvaldo Aquino took the loss.
The Tigers have more than a week off before returning to action with a home doubleheader against Bluefield State College on March 3.
