COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College Tigers erupted for 13 runs in the first inning and went on to take a 20-4 victory over Bluefield State College in the second game of a baseball doubleheader on Saturday and salvaged a split.
Bluefield State rallied with seven runs in the seventh inning to win the first game 8-7.
Michael Garner went 3-for-4 with six RBIs in the second game, getting a three-run homer in the first inning, then added a three-run triple in the sixth inning.
David White Jr. and
Skyler Sabado each drove in three runs. White had two singles and drove in three runs in the first inning, as the Tigers sent 18 batters to the plate in the first inning. The Tigers pounded out 17 hits.
In the first game, the Tigers scored five runs in the first inning and added two more in the second for a 7-0 lead. White had a two-run single in the first inning and a RBI single in the second inning.
Joseph Macaluso had a two-run double in the first inning, and
Anthony Johnson added a RBI triple.
Bluefield State scored a run in the fifth to cut the lead to 7-1. The Tigers held the 7-1 lead heading into the seventh inning, when the Big Blues scored seven runs on five hits and a pair of Benedict errors to take an 8-7 lead. Benedict went three up, three down in the bottom of the seventh.
The Tigers, now 3-5 on the season, take on Stillman College on Monday at Tiger Field. The doubleheader starts at 1 p.m.
