COLUMBIA, S.C. – Albany State's Lavette Tucker hit a pair of home runs to lead the Lady Golden Rams to a 12-8 victory over Benedict College and complete the three-game sweep in a softball game on Sunday afternoon at Tiger Field.
Albany State jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning and built the lead to 7-1 in the fourth inning. The Lady Tigers rallied with two runs in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI single by
Brianna Billie and an RBI by
Khayreyah Parrish. Benedict pushed across two more runs in the fifth inning to make it 7-5.
Tandreanna Conyers had an RBI double, and later scored on a groundout by
De'Maya Davis.
The Lady Golden Rams scored three runs in the sixth, getting a pair of runs off a Benedict error. Benedict answered with three runs in the bottom of the sixth as Billie hit an RBI single and
Sharik Woods drove home two runs on a single. Albany State added two more runs in the seventh as Tucker hit her second home run of the game.
Conyers went 3-for-3 with an RBI, while Billie went 3-for-5 with three RBIs.
Benedict had 14 hits to Albany State's 13, but the Lady Tigers had just one extra-base hit, while Albany State, now 6-13 overall and 3-0 in the SIAC, had three doubles and three home runs.
Benedict, now 10-5 overall and 0-3 in the SIAC, travels to take part in the SIAC Crossover Tournament in Jasper, Ala., where they will take on the six teams from the SIAC Western Division from Thursday to Saturday.
