JASPER, Ala. – The Benedict College softball team split their first two games of the SIAC Softball Crossover Tournament on Thursday.
The Lady Tigers pounded out 14 hits and cruised to a 12-4 victory in five innings over Tuskegee in the first game of the day. In their second game, Lane scored two runs in the first inning and held on for a 2-1 victory.
The Lady Tigers go to 11-6 overall and 1-3 in the SIAC.
Against Tuskegee, Benedict scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning, getting an RBI single from
Erika Dargan to take a 3-1 lead. Tuskegee rallied in the second inning with three runs to take a 4-3 lead. Benedict regained the lead with three runs in the bottom of the third inning.
De'Maya Davis hit a two-run single to give Benedict the lead for good.
The Lady Tigers added two more runs in the fourth inning, pushing two runs across without a hit and two Tuskegee errors. Benedict extended the lead with four runs in the fifth inning. Davis drove home another run with a single.
Torcealon Kelly added an RBI single and
Brianna Billie brought home a run with a double.
Against Lane, the Lady Dragons jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a pair of hits and a walk. Lane pitcher Mice'La Ross held Benedict to just two hits through the first five innings. Benedict scored its only run in the sixth as
Khayreyah Parrish reached on a bunt single and Dargan followed with a double down the left-field line to cut the lead to 2-1.
Sharik Woods led off the seventh with a double, putting the tying run in scoring position, but was stranded on third.
Benedict takes on LeMoyne-Owen and Kentucky State in Friday's two games.
