COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College softball team easily swept a doubleheader against Voorhees College on Thursday afternoon, winning 21-3 and 23-3.
Benedict jumped out with 17 runs in the first inning of the first game and cruised to the victory in five innings.
Starkeira Daniel led the offense, going 2-for-3 with three RBIs.
Tiana Prince had an inside-the-park home run. Benedict stole 19 bases in the contest and took advantage of 17 walks, two hit batters and four Voorhees errors.
In the second game, Voorhees struck first with two runs in the top of the first inning. Benedict came back to take the lead with four runs in the bottom half. The Lady Tigers added seven runs in the second inning, four in the third and eight in the fourth.
Brianna Billie went 4-for-4 at the plate, while
Sharik Woods was 2-for-3 with five RBIs, hitting a three-run homer in the third inning. Daniel went 3-for-4 with four RBIs, getting a two-run single in the second, an RBI single in the third and a RBI triple in the fourth.
Benedict stole 16 bases in the second game and took advantage of seven walks and 10 Voorhees errors.
The Lady Tigers improve to 15-7 overall. Benedict travels to Atlanta this weekend for a three-game conference series against Clark Atlanta.
