ALBANY, Ga. – The Benedict College baseball team scored just one run in two games and dropped a doubleheader to Albany State on Saturday.
Albany State hit three home runs, including a grand slam, to win the first game 15-1. The Golden Rams shut out the Tigers in the second game, 6-0. Benedict falls to 8-9 overall and 2-3 in the SIAC. Albany State improves to 11-11 overall and 3-2 in the SIAC.
Albany State broke open a 2-0 game with a grand slam in the third inning, then pushed across six runs in the fourth inning for a 13-0 lead. The Golden Rams added a two-run homer in the sixth.
Benedict got its only run in the fifth inning.
Skyler Sabado reached on an error with two outs.
Christopher Harper singled, advancing Sabado to third.
Andrew McCoy followed with a single to left field, scoring Sabado. McCoy had two of Benedict's four hits in the game.
In the second game, Albany State snapped a scoreless contest with a pair of runs in the fourth inning. The Golden Rams added four more runs in the sixth with a two-run homer, a Benedict error and a RBI single.
The Tigers had five hits in the second game, with
Armando Valentin leading the way with two hits. Benedict left 10 runners on base in the second game.
The Tigers and Golden Rams are scheduled to play the third game in the series on Sunday.
