COLUMBIA, S.C. –
David White Jr. hit a pair of home runs and
Christopher Harper pitched a complete game as the Benedict College baseball team beat Stillman College 9-2 in the first game of a non-conference doubleheader on Monday.
Stillman scored 11 runs in the final three innings to take a 13-2 victory in the second game.
Benedict moves to 4-6 on the season. Stillman goes to 4-11.
White blasted a three-run homer in the first inning for a 3-0 lead. Stillman cut the lead to 4-2 with a pair of runs in the second inning.
Andrew McCoy had a two-run double in the bottom of the second to make it 6-2. White smashed another homer to left field in the fifth inning to make it 7-2. White added an RBI double in the sixth inning to make it 9-2. White went 3-for-4 with five RBIs in the game.
Harper pitched all seven innings, giving up three hits. He walked two and struck out five for his first mound win of the season.
Stillman scored two runs in the first inning of the second game, and the Tigers tied the game in the bottom of the first inning.
Armando Valentin scored the first run for the Tigers when he led off with a walk, advanced to second on an error, moved to third on a single by McCoy and stole home. McCoy later scored on a sacrifice fly by
Michael Garner.
The game remained tied 2-2 until the fifth inning, when Stillman scored two more runs, then added two more in the sixth. Stillman erupted for seven runs in the seventh inning on four hits, a walk, and two hit batters.
Benedict returns to action on Saturday with a non-conference doubleheader against Lincoln University.
