COLUMBIA, S.C. – Claflin University pitcher Tiaria Norman allowed just one hit and struck out 15 as the Lady Panthers defeated Benedict College 5-1 on Saturday afternoon in a SIAC softball game.
The Lady Tigers recognized their five seniors as part of the senior day festivities.
Benedict falls to 22-11 overall and 8-7 in the SIAC. Claflin improves to 22-25 overall and 12-5 in the SIAC.
Claflin broke a scoreless game with a run in the third inning when Kaela Robinson scored on a wild pitch. The Lady Panthers added four more runs in the fourth inning, getting a bases-loaded walk for one run, then later scored on another wild pitch.
Benedict got its only hit of the game in the bottom of the fourth.
Brianna Billie, one of Benedict's seniors, singled up the middle. She stole second and advanced to third, and later scored on a wild pitch.
Along with Billie, the Lady Tigers honored senior outfielder
Tiana Prince, shortstop
Khayreyah Parrish, first baseman
Sharik Woods, and outfielder
Torcealon Kelly.
Benedict and Claflin will play a doubleheader on Sunday, starting at 1 p.m., in the final home games of the season.
