FAIRFIELD, Ala. – The Miles Bears scored nine unanswered runs to end the game and take a 14-4 victory over the Benedict College Tigers on Friday.
The loss drops the Tigers to 17-18 overall and 7-10 in the SIAC. Miles improves to 28-17 overall and 17-1 in the SIAC.
Joseph Macaluso went 3-for-4 with a pair of solo home runs to lead the Tigers at the plate. Macaluso was also the losing pitcher, giving up six runs in five innings of work.
The Tigers struck first with a RBI single by
Skyler Sabado in the second inning. Miles tied the game with a run in the third. Macaluso's first homer came in the fourth inning to give the Tigers a 2-1 lead. Miles took the lead for good on a two-run double in the bottom of the fourth, and another RBI double made it 4-2.
Benedict added a run in the fifth when
Christopher Harper singled, advanced to second on an error, stole third and came home on a wild pitch. Miles answered with a run in the bottom of the fifth to push the lead to 5-3. Macaluso smashed another homer to lead off the sixth inning to cut the lead to 5-4.
That would be all the scoring for the Tigers, but Miles scored four runs in the sixth, two runs in the seventh and three runs in the eighth.
The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday to wrap up the regular season.
