Benedict Sweeps Three Games From Paine

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College Lady Tigers swept three games from Paine College in SIAC softball action on Friday at Tiger Field.

With rain forecast for Saturday, the two teams agreed to play all three games of their conference series on Friday. Benedict won all three games in five innings, taking game one 9-0 as Taylor Roberts pitched a no-hitter; 19-2 in the second game as Khayreyah Parrish had an inside-the-park home run, and 15-4 in game three as Starkeira Daniel went 3-for-3 with a double, triple and home run.

Benedict improves to 20-9 overall and 7-5 in the SIAC. Paine falls to 2-13 overall and 0-13 in the SIAC.

In game one, Roberts held Paine hitless, walked two and struck out eight. Amari Lawson led the Lady Tigers at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a three-run double in the fifth inning.

In game two, Benedict scored 14 runs in the first inning, sending 18 batters to the plate. Parrish hit her inside-the-park homer to left-center field with two runners on base. Tandreanna Conyers and Sharik Woods each had an RBI triple. Parrish went 3-for-3 with three RBIs, while De'Maya Davis went 2-for-3 with three RBIs.

In game three, Benedict had an 8-3 lead heading into the fourth inning when the Lady Tigers pushed across seven runs to get enough runs to end the game after the fifth inning. Roberts picked up another pitching win on the afternoon and helped herself by going 3-for-3 with two RBIs.

Benedict, the top base-stealing team in NCAA Division II, had 29 total stolen bases in the three games.

The Lady Tigers travel to Livingstone for a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday.
