COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College Tigers dropped a pair of baseball games to Clark Atlanta University on Sunday afternoon at Tiger Field.
Clark Atlanta took the first game 13-8, then took an 11-2 victory in the second game.
Benedict falls to 13-12 overall and 6-5 in the SIAC. Clark Atlanta moves to 10-19 overall and 3-9 in the SIAC.
After Clark Atlanta scored two runs on just one hit in the first inning of the first game, the Tigers came back and took the lead with four runs in the bottom half of the inning.
Armando Valentin hit a two-run double and later scored on an error.
Javier Santiago drove home a run with a single.
The Panthers added a run in the second inning without the benefit of a hit, then took the lead in the third with three runs on one hit and one Benedict error. Clark Atlanta scored two runs in the fourth and four runs in the fifth for a 12-4 lead.
Myles Snype added an RBI single in the sixth and
Andrew McCoy had an RBI single in the seventh.
In the second game, Clark Atlanta scored five runs in the second inning and two more in the third and cruised to the win. Clark Atlanta had an 11-0 lead before the Tigers pushed across a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh. Snype walked and later scored on a groundout by
Fate Young.
Skyler Sabado had an RBI single.
Clark Atlanta pitcher Shahir Gates threw a complete game, limiting the Tigers to three hits, the first was in the first inning and the next two didn't come until the seventh inning.
Benedict and Clark Atlanta will play the third game in the series Monday morning starting at 10 a.m.
