COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College Tigers snapped a three-game losing streak and defeated Clark Atlanta University 15-7 on Monday.
David White Jr. went 5-for-6 with three RBIs, while
Armando Valentin also drove in three runs on a pair of hits.
Benedict improves to 14-12 overall and 7-5 in the SIAC.
Clark Atlanta jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. The Tigers picked up a run in the bottom of the first when
Andrew McCoy came home on a balk. Benedict scored three runs in the second inning to take a 4-3 lead on a three-run homer by Valentin.
The Panthers scored two runs in the third inning to regain the lead. Benedict tied the game at 5-5 with a run in the bottom of the third on a RBI double by
Anthony Johnson.
Benedict took the lead for good with six runs in the fourth inning. Johnson drew a bases-loaded walk,
Bradon O'Connor scored
Skyler Sabado on a bunt single, and O'Connor later stole home to make it 11-5.
The Tigers got back-to-back solo homers by White and
Joseph Macaluso in the seventh inning to take a 13-7 lead. White added a two-run double in the eighth. White's homer was his 13th of the season.
Christopher Harper came on in relief and pitched 7 2/3 innings for the win, giving up five hits, four walks and striking out five.
Benedict will travel to Sumter on Friday for a doubleheader against Morris College.
