WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Benedict College softball team opened the 2019 season by dropping a doubleheader against Winston-Salem State on Friday afternoon.
WSSU won the first game 9-1 in five innings as the Lady Tigers managed just two hits. WSSU won the second game 2-1, scoring the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Benedict goes to 0-2 on the season. Winston-Salem State improves to 2-0.
Erika Dargan had an RBI single in the first game to drive home Benedict's only run.
The Lady Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the third inning of the second game as
Zanila Booker had an RBI single. Booker led the Lady Tigers with two hits in the game. The Lady Rams tied the game in the bottom of the sixth then scored the winning run in the seventh on a one-out double.
Benedict travels to take on USC Aiken on Feb. 9.
