COLUMBIA, S.C. – Fort Valley State jumped out to a big first-half lead and went on to take a 90-73 victory over Benedict College in the final home game of the season for the Tigers on Monday night in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
Benedict falls to 4-20 overall and 3-12 in the SIAC. Fort Valley State improves to 7-20 overall and 6-9 in the SIAC.
The Wildcats led by as much as 18 points, 42-24, with 1:08 left in the first half and took a 45-30 lead at the break. Fort Valley kept a double-digit lead the entire second half, growing the advantage to as much as 26 points, 82-56.
DeShawn Graham led the Tigers with 20 points, connecting on a season-best six 3-pointers. Over the last three games, Graham is averaging 20.7 points per game and has made 14 3-pointers.
Romello Jones added 17 points.
Benedict honored its lone senior,
Davante Wiltshire, at halftime. Wiltshire had a strong all-around game for the Tigers, finishing with 16 points, eight assists and two steals. He opened the game by draining a 3-pointer and finished with a season-high four 3-pointers.
Fort Valley State outrebounded the Tigers 44-26 and had a 15-4 advantage in second-chance points.
Jaylon McMillan led the Wildcats with 27 points.
Benedict returns to action Saturday on the road at Clark Atlanta for a 3 p.m. contest.
