Tigers Blast Lincoln 15-7 In Baseball Action

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Anthony Johnson had a career day at the plate on Saturday, featuring a two-run triple and a monstrous solo shot to left-center field, as he led the Benedict Tigers to a 15-7 victory over the Lincoln (Pa.) Lions.

The game was scheduled to be the first of a doubleheader at Tiger Field for Benedict's home opener. Three innings of game two were played before the game was ruled unofficial by the umpires due to darkness.

The scoring started early in this contest, as Lincoln's Malachi Smith launched a solo shot to left-center in the top of the second to put the Lions up 1-0. However, the Tigers would come crawling back in the bottom half of the inning. With two outs and two runners on, Javier Santiago was able to score off of a throwing error by the catcher to tie the game for Benedict. Later in the frame, Bradon O'Connor hit an RBI single up the left side, putting the Tigers up 2-1, and they wouldn't look back.

Among the Tigers' many run-scoring plays, some of the more notable ones included Anthony Johnson's two-run triple in the third that put the Tigers up 7-2. Later in the sixth, Joseph Macaluso would smack a three-run home run to center field to give the Tigers a 14-6 lead. Immediately following the three-run blast, Johnson stepped up to hit a solo shot of his own, giving the Tigers their 15th run of the ballgame.

Fareed Mizelle Jr. picked up his first win of the year for the Tigers after pitching one inning, allowing no hits or runs, walking one, and striking out one. Rolando Alvarez took the loss for the Lions, as he now moves to 0-3 on the year after allowing 11 runs and throwing over 110 pitches.

The Tigers are back at home in action this Wednesday, taking on Erskine College at 1 p.m.
