ATLANTA –
Javier Santiago hit a grand slam and drove in five runs for the game to help lift the Benedict College Tigers to an 11-4 victory over Morehouse in the second game of a conference doubleheader on Sunday.
Morehouse scored the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning to take a 7-6 victory in the first game.
Benedict moves to 6-5 overall and 3-1 in the SIAC. Morehouse goes to 5-15 overall and 2-4 in the SIAC.
Michael Garner had a two-run double, and
Myles Snype also drove in a pair of runs in the second game.
Jacob Lagos went the distance on the mound, scattering eight hits and striking out six, while walking just one.
In the first game, the Tigers jumped out to a 3-1 lead before Morehouse scored three runs in the bottom of the third to take the lead, then added two more runs in the fourth for a 6-3 lead.
Bradon O'Connor brought home a run in the fifth inning on a sacrifice bunt. Benedict tied the game with two runs in the sixth inning, scoring two runs on wild pitches.
Neither team scored again until Morehouse pushed across the winning run in the bottom of the ninth when the Tigers hit a pair of batters and Demetrius Burton hit a walk-off single.
Benedict and Morehouse will continue the conference series with a doubleheader on Monday, starting at noon.
