Tigers Sweep Doubleheader Over Morehouse

ATLANTA – The Benedict College baseball team swept a doubleheader from Morehouse College on Monday afternoon.

Benedict won the first game 12-3 as Javier Santiago had a bases-clearing double as part of a six-run fourth inning, and Joseph Macaluso went the distance on the mound and struck out nine. Benedict won the second game 13-5 as the Tigers pounded out 17 hits, including home runs from Christopher Floyd and Anthony Johnson.

Benedict improves to 8-5 overall and 5-1 in the SIAC. Morehouse falls to 5-17 overall and 2-6 in the SIAC.

The Tigers broke a 1-1 tie in the third inning of the first game on a Myles Snype RBI single. Benedict broke the game open with six runs in the fourth inning with five hits and taking advantage of a pair of Morehouse errors. Bradon O'Connor had an RBI single, and Santiago hit his bases-loaded double. The Tigers tacked on four more runs in the seventh on just one hit and scoring on a pair of wild pitches and an error.

Macaluso threw all seven innings on the mound, giving up eight hits and one walk while striking out nine.

In the second game, the Tigers jumped out to a 10-0 lead and cruised to the win. Johnson hit a three-run homer in the fifth inning and Floyd hit a two-run shot in the seventh. Christopher Harper and Macaluso led Benedict at the plate, going 3-for-4 with an RBI each. O'Connor drove in two runs.

Darian Williams picked up the win on the mound, going five innings and allowing six hits and two walks while striking out two.

Benedict returns to action on Wednesday with a road trip to USC Beaufort.
