ORANGEBURG, S.C. – Claflin University swept Benedict College in a non-conference softball doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon.
Claflin blanked the Lady Tigers 6-0 in the first game. Claflin scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning for a 6-5 victory in the second game.
Benedict falls to 11-16 overall. Claflin improves to 24-13.
The Lady Tigers were held to four hits in the first game, with
Starkeira Daniel going 2-for-3.
In the second game, Benedict struck first with two runs in the first inning as
Tandreanna Conyers scored on a passed ball, and
Zanila Booker scored on a groundout. Claflin pulled ahead 5-2 before the Lady Tigers tied the game by scoring one run in the fifth and two more in the sixth.
Erika Dargan reached on an error in the fifth, and later scored on another Claflin error. In the sixth,
Marshallnae Bell and
Amari Lawson had RBI singles to tie the game.
Benedict returns to action with a three-game conference series this weekend against Clark Atlanta. Saturday's doubleheader at Tiger Field starts at 1 p.m.
