Lady Tigers Split Doubleheader With Clark Atlanta

COLUMBIA, SC -- Runs were certainly the theme of Saturday's softball doubleheader between the Lady Tigers and the Clark Atlanta Lady Panthers, as the two teams combined to score 40 runs between the two games as Benedict split the doubleheader Saturday at Tiger Field.

In the first game, it was Clark Atlanta netting a 15-6 victory in five innings over the Lady Tigers. Tatianna Kelly led the way for Clark Atlanta with two home runs and seven RBIs. Skylar Smith picked up her fifth victory of the year for the Lady Panthers, throwing all five innings, allowing six runs, eight hits, and one walk. Benedict's starter, Taylor Roberts, drops to 3-3 on the year, after pitching 3 2/3 innings, allowing nine earned runs, six hits, and five walks.

In the second game, the Lady Tigers came out swinging, beating Clark Atlanta 14-5 in six innings. Starkeira Daniel led the way for Benedict with two hits, including a two-run blast to right center in the third, and finished with four RBIs and two runs. Marshallnae Bell picked up her second win in two days for the Lady Tigers, pitching all six innings, allowing four earned runs, striking out eight, and walking one. She helped her cause with a two-run blast to left-center field. Zanila Booker had three hits and drove in a pair of runs on two doubles. Erika Dargan had a two-run homer in the fifth inning.

The Lady Tigers move to 13-17 (6-6 SIAC) on the year, while the Lady Panthers are now 9-16 (6-6 SIAC) on the season.

Benedict returns to action next weekend in Augusta with a three-game series against Paine, beginning Friday at 1 p.m.
