COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict Tigers baseball team split their doubleheader with the Albany State Rams on a windy Sunday afternoon at Tiger Field. Albany State took the first game 5-4, while the Tigers won the second game 9-5.
In the first game, Chasen Roulhac stole the show for the Rams. He went 2-for-4 while driving in two runs. Roulhac also closed the game on the mound for the Rams, pitching two thirds of an inning, walking one, striking out one, and allowing one hit. Roulhac would end up getting his second save of the season for his efforts. Malik Barrington would get the win for the Rams, his sixth on the year. Darian Williams incurred the loss for Benedict, dropping to 1-1 on the season, after allowing seven hits, five runs, and four walks, while striking out four in five innings of work.
In the second game, Bradon O'Connor led the Tigers to victory after going 2-for-3, with one RBI, three runs scored, one walk, and four stolen bases. Javier Santiago also put on a solid show for the home fans, going 2-for-4, including a double, while driving in three runs and stealing a base. Joseph Macaluso was solid from both the plate and the mound. He went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs, and one RBI. On the mound, he threw a complete game, allowing five runs, eight hits, and one walk while striking out five. Macaluso would earn his second win of the year for his performance. Blaylor Galice would net his fourth loss of the year for the Rams.
The Tigers move to 9-9 (6-4 SIAC) on the season, while the Rams drop to 19-16 (11-1 SIAC) for the year.
The Benedict Tigers return to action this Tuesday at home against Claflin, with the first pitch scheduled for 2 p.m.
