COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College Lady Tigers are just over halfway through the 2019-20 season. They will be looking for their ninth consecutive win as they travel to Allen University for a non-conference game tonight starting at 5:30 p.m.
The Lady Tigers have defeated their two previous opponents by a total of 53 points. Between these two games,
Ay'Anna Bey is leading the team with 15 points-per-game, while shooting 84 percent from the free throw line.
The return of
Ayanna Armstead has rejuvenated the Lady Tigers. Since her return, Benedict is 6-0 and has outscored their opponent by an average of 15 points.
During this six game stretch, Armstead is averaging 12.5 ppg, 5 rebounds-per-game, while shooting 42 percent from the three-point-line on 24 minutes per game. Strong play from freshman
Amaya Ashby has helped the Lady Tigers down the stretch as well. Ashby has averaged 13.5 ppg, 5 rpg, while shooting 56 percent from the field in the previous two games for Benedict.
Tonight will mark the first time since January 30, 2003 that the Lady Tigers will face off against Allen University. Benedict defeated Allen 66-38 during this matchup.
Since losing a heart breaker to Bryan College on November 16
th, the Fighting Yellow Jackets have gone 8-1 to produce a 12-3 overall record. Allen is led by Seniors Kadejuha Kennedy and Equayla Smith. Kennedy is coming off of a career best 27 points against Montreat College on Saturday afternoon. It is unknown if Smith will suit up on Monday night as she is dealing with an ankle injury suffered Friday night.
Benedict and Allen have a combined record of 25-5 on the season.
