COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College Tigers fell to Morehouse College, 70-66, on Thursday night in a SIAC men's basketball game.
Benedict falls to 11-15 overall and 7-10 in the SIAC. Morehouse College improves to 12-11 overall and 9-7 in the SIAC.
Tajh Green led the way for the Tigers with a season-high 22 points on 9-of-13 shooting, while also adding nine rebounds.
Tyrese Mapp (14) and
NyQuan McCombs (10) also scored in double-figures for Benedict.
The Tigers jumped out to an early 17-8 lead seven minutes into the first half. Morehouse then went on a 14-0 run in the following four minutes to move back in front, 20-17. The Maroon Tigers closed the first half on an 11-0 run, including three consecutive shots behind the arc for a 35-26 lead at the half.
The Tigers came out of the break hot, going on an 11-0 run of their own to retake the lead, 37-35, with 17:27 remaining. Benedict held a 58-50 advantage after two free throws by
Aboubacar Camara with 6:11 left in regulation.
In the final six minutes of the game, the Tigers were outscored 20-8, allowing Morehouse to take the lead. The Maroon Tigers were able to knock down free throws down the stretch to secure the victory.
Benedict held a 38-24 advantage in the paint on Thursday night, increasing their streak to three straight games where they outscored the opponent in this category.
The Tigers will play the final game on this two-game road trip Saturday at 3 p.m. as they travel to Albany State University looking to split the season series with the Golden Rams.
