COLUMBIA, S.C. –
Christopher Harper belted a two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning to help lead the Benedict College Tigers past Piedmont International University, 7-5, and complete the series sweep on Sunday afternoon.
Benedict improves to 4-1 overall, while Piedmont International University drops to 2-7 overall.
Jacob Lagos was the winning pitcher, throwing for five innings and giving up only one earned run on two hits.
Nick Weston continued his hot hitting, going 3-for-5, while also scoring and driving in two runs.
Ahmad Ali went 3-for-3 with one run batted in.
The Bruins jumped out to a 4-1 lead heading into the bottom of the fifth inning. Weston then drove in two runs to close the gap to 4-3. The next batter,
Jaylin Jennings, doubled Harper home to tie the game.
After Piedmont retook the lead in the sixth, 6-5,
Bradon O'Connor doubled to left field, driving in
TreVohn Jeffrey to tie the game at 6-6. Harper's two-run shot gave the Tigers the lead, allowing Lagos to shut the door in the ninth to clinch the victory.
Benedict will host Lincoln University (Pa.) on Friday at noon at Tiger Field.
